When Brenda and I got to the orphange we were surprised that there was so many buildings. In one building is all of the handicapped children (about 25) and in another bldg there are infants, toddlers and children. We were suppose to start working with the infants--but when we started our way down the hall a women who was scrubbing the floors screamed at us to stop, so instead I opened the nearest door and ventured in. Once inside, I pointed to a child asking to pick up the child, they nodded yes and my first day was spent in this room. There was 20 babies ages 6 months to a year. Two sleeping rooms with worn metal beds, that looked as though some of the babies had been eating away the paint chips for years. The main room had two giant play pens made out of wood, that I can take my shoes off and climb into. Within the first five min I had already chosen which little girl I would pick to adopt. Brenda (my co-volunteer) had chosen a boy and a girl. Most of the time is spent holding, rocking and loving the children that they deperately need. Then came feeding and nap time. They didnt think I fed them quick enough b/c they are use to feeding them ONE ENTIRE TBL SPOON per bite. They act like it is a feeding frenzy, get it done so they can be put to sleep.!! I saw horrible diaper rash, without the resources to be treated. BUT all in all it was a great day and I love my placement. I was worried about the workers there, but they were all very kind and welcoming. (except mop lady) :-)
Oh one set of babies that are 10 months old are twin girls. SO CUTE!!!!! talk to you tomorrow.
