Day 2 at the Orphanage
INCREDIBLE , the way these women work for the pure salvation of all these children is unlike anything I have ever witnessed. They are terribly understaffed so everything that is done ie: bathing, dressing, feeding, sheet changing, medicine, fingernail clipping, playtime, etc. has all been finetuned to a very strict routine. This a.m. when Brenda and I arrived they were washing hair bathing, dressing and doing hair,so we dove into the assembly line and started dressing the children when they were handed off in a diaper. The nurses came in to administer meds and such so we were asked to each take a child and go outdoors to the playground. This was tough, outside in their chairs were all the handicaped children. What a heartache to observe, these children will never be adopted. Some have been there their entire life others after an accident that left them challenged (mostly head and spine injuries). The workers outside took to us immediately and we had a group of about 8-10 women in their 20's asking us (in arabic and french, remember)all kinds of questions -where we live, if we have children, married, all about my nails, one gal wants me to find her a husband and gave me her name and number. There were probably 100 children outside it is a sight I cannot begin to discribe. Just wow.......When we went back in to start with lunch we did a quick exploration (we looked behind closed doors)and we came across the newborn nursery. I was in heaven! Picture this, 2 rooms each with 2 rows of bassinets (about 12 to a row) all full. Yes everyone with a baby in it. One little girl looked as though she was delivered this morning, tiny little girl with a button mouth. Some of these babies are just waiting for their paper work and they will be gone. There was a brother and sister they had been part of triplets but 1 girl had died at birth. They are being adopted by a couple in Spain.Babies, babies, babies, everywhere I so love giving my time to these little innocent beings they are all so beautiful. Another truly outstanding day in Morocco. We went for a long walk today down a very affluent neighborhood street each home had 1 or 2 guards in front (with guns)we went through a huge park and ended up at the local Hilton Hotel. Tonight was another delicious meal of meats, fruits, spinach salad, breads, soup and a pasta and meat dish. Goodnight! It is almost 11 here and I need to get some rest so I can keep up with ALL those children. LAURA

My dearest Beav. I can feel your love and concern for the children in your care and I know they feel your warmth and sincerity. I feels like I am reading from a novel of some sort as the details are so vivid for me. Montego and I are doing fine, he misses you terribly as do I. Continue to share your daily routines with us, so we can share in your experience. I love you more than I can discribe and I long to reunite with you. Love always, Sud
